  July 30, 2002 (Tuesday)
The planned meeting with Hans Fechner from Mercedes-Benz started on time. It lasted about 45 minutes and this time was practically wasted.

Mercedes-Benz and Lone Star Inc. (Calgary) believe that the offer they made, leasing a new vehicle at a cost for me $200.00 higher than the current one is as good as they can do - is unsatisfactory to me.

Interesting enough, Mr. Fechner admits that the North-American built cars cannot stand up to the ones built in Germany (since 1999 the M-Class is built in Graz/Austria for the European market). Interesting also is that Mr. Fechner was informed about the 5-weeks repair of the A/C - NOT about the previous history.
Mr. Fechner tried to blame the dealer, asking me, why I did not try Hyatt Auto Sales. When I pointed out that there were some fraud charges filed against Hyatt and that this company is known for odometer rollbacks, which made it for me impossible to deal with them, I learned that Mercedes-Benz is well aware about these occurrences - kind of strange, that a manufacturer which want to be known as being top-of-the-line recommends you to companies 'with a history' and is being represented by them. Beside this - Hyatt Auto Gallery seem to have similar problems with their M-Class customers
When I pointed out that the gasoline consumption of this vehicle went up from 12-13ltr/100km to 16-18km/100 in city-traffic, I was told that the board computer might not work properly. At Mercedes-Benz, they really must think their customers are dead stupid or can't they see, that I can use a simple calculator and figure this out by hand to verify these figures?
It is really amazing with what kind of excuses Mercedes-Benz comes up with, to explain rock-chips on the tail gate and on doors: "They must come from bouncing rocks, and you will have probably some on the roof as well" Mr. Fechner said, while climbing on the wheel to verify some chips. Are they blind, that cars from other manufacturers are getting hit by the same amount of rocks and their paint does not chip?
I believe it is upsetting for Mercedes-Benz that Mr. Fechner suggested, that I should buy a car from a different manufacturer - I have some very strong points about reliability and quality of a Mercedes-Benz product and I am confident, that most car owners of a GM, Ford, Lexus, Honda, Mazda etc. would not be as patient as I, and what I hear - these manufacturers would have taken action far sooner. Mercedes-Benz lost a strong supporter!
