Front Brakes |

Just about at the time another
service was due, the brake-light came on. I called in, and Dione
got the vehicle booked within a couple of days (not a week as it is
now standard). I was not surprised, that the front brake pads had to
be replaced, but I was kind of upset, that this happened at
29,734km. |

I cannot remember any car, where I
had to replace brake pads with such a low mileage. So I asked a
fellow at Hertz, how often they change brake pads. The answer was
actually not surprising: "Never and we are selling the cars between
40 and 60,000km. |

Recently we had to replace the
brake pads on our 6-year old van .. the first time... at 127,000km -
this sounds about right! |

Asking during the
meeting on July 19th 2002, how long the front brakes generally last,
I was informed between 35,000km and 40,000km, and that I am not the
only customer, complaining about this. If this did not change in the
meantime, perhaps Mercedes-Benz could include a free brake-job every
second time, the pads have to be replaced - just to stand up to
their competition. I take the short-coming of 5,000km towards my
driving habits and the fact, that I do hardly any highway driving. |

During the meeting
on July 30th. 2002 with Hans Fechner from Mercedes-Benz I was told,
that Mercedes-Benz will exchange the brakes free, if this happens
during the warranty time - well the car is under warranty until May
2003 - I got billed and paid for it anyway |
