I used this ML
320 for 2 years and 10 months, drove ca. 45,000 km and had
it for over 3 months in unscheduled repairs and was for
these times mostly without courtesy car. Some of the repairs
were minor - others unacceptable. Here a short listing:

- The
2nd day with 180 km the red engine light came on - this
suppose to be a serious issue. It turned out to be the
emission valve - a known problem.
- Some
of my friends pointed out that all the studs are rusted
- a common complaint but the dealer exchanged them after
2 years and 10 months.
- Also
noticed some upcoming rust on the drivers door. It was
pointed out to the used-car manager and the service
department, but never repaired
- The
wind deflector off the sun roof would not stay up at
speeds over 90km/h. The dealer was not able to fix this
- and additional external deflector did not work out.
- The
ashtray would not close
- Rock
chips appear on the hood, passenger doors and tail gate
at a unacceptable rate
- Engine
looses power, wipers are going wild, horn hunks in
intervals all dashboard lights are flashing. The car was
returned twice without a change, then the dealer found a
faulty ground to cause the problem - after 3 weeks. I
was without car.
- Air
conditioning quit - was repaired about 6 times to work
just for one day.
- Brakes
needed to be replaced at 29,000 km (20,000m) at $650.00.
- Rear
tire blew. This can happen, but it took 4 days to
replace it. Tire stores do not carry the make "General"
and not the size the ML takes.

Heating at -25 Degrees C - is definitely not sufficient.
You freeze or the windows fog up.
- The
transmission shifts really hard when the car is cold. I
was told this is normal - although I never had that with
any other car.

Steering squeaks - I was told that was the alternator -
was exchanged under warranty

Muffler makes terrible noise - apparently it was the
catalytic converter that cracked - it was exchanged
under warranty

Check-Engine light comes on again - this time it was the
Air-Flow Sensor which was faulty - got it exchanged
under warranty.
- Cannot
lock or close drivers door. Interior door handle was
loose. It took 2 visits to get this fixed.
- Air
conditioning fails again. Lone Star exchanges the A/C
compressor.
- After
2 days A/C fails again - it takes 4 days to book the
vehicle in. After I dropped off the car I get the phone
call that they will have to order parts - but I can
drive the car without A/C. Well it was blowing hot air
at 30 degrees C.

Dropped the car off to get repairs done. It took another
2 weeks. The A/C compressor was gone again - the first
time they did not flush the system.
- They
finally exchanged the wheel studs.
- Dealer
refused to do anything about the rattling sun roof
- Dealer
refused to do anything about the ash tray
- Dealer
refused to do anything about the rock chips
