2001 ML 430

Joel writes:

Purchased a 2001 ML-430 new and suffered through ownership for two years. I really wanted to like this vehicle. It was comfortable, solid, and a real joy to drive. However, with regards to reliability and safety, it was the worst vehicle I have owned and the worst vehicle experience of anyone I know. The car stranded my family (small children) on multiple occasions, hours from Mercedes so-called roadside assistance. Each problem was different - fuel, electrical, mechanical. When the power steering failed and almost killed my family - I dumped the car at a significant loss. Never again will I own or trust Mercedes. Never again will I trust my family's safety to this brand. Be very careful and do your homework before owning this brand.

2003 ML 500

Many silly little electrical / trim problems, which I would have thought would have been resolved by now - considering how long the ML has been in production.

  1. Battery failed at 15,000 miles.

  2. Door locks keep on playing up - dealer can't seem to fix them.

  3. Fuel gauge next to useless.

  4. Clock gains about 10 minutes / month.

  5. Window got stuck down.

  6. Remote entry system keeps on playing up.

  7. Car alarm goes off at random times - usually in the middle of night.

  8. Tires are wearing unevenly and no, it's not been curbed or off road.

  9. Drivers power seat gave out at 12,500 miles.

  10. Random warning lights, which the dealer can never replicate.

  11. Front pads shot at 11,000 miles - just been in for service, now it needs new pads and rotors all round, which are not covered by warranty $$$$. We drive it very gently.

Potentially a great SUV with great safety features, but way too many problems & defects for a true MB.
