2001 C 240
FH posts:
I own a 2001 C240 and I'm ready to give up. I just
completed a $5200.00 service that involved replacing
the entire electrical system of the car (including
EIS & SAM). The dealership turned me away because
they said that it would be too expensive for me to
pay for their labor charges, so I found an
independent MB cert. shop to do the work. They said
they see this kind of thing with MB all the time.
They also said that MB is so ego-driven by their
'latest in technology' attitude, that the company is
literally several years BEHIND in developing ways
for vehicle repairs (including diagnostic
equipment). Unfortunately the unwritten rule is to
'dump your Benz after warranty expires' and let
someone else deal with the headaches. Due to my
latest experience, I'm very interested in a
class-action against the manufacturer as well as the
dealership that serviced the car. I believe that
these problems existed in the vehicle and were
'patched' during my warranty services only to
resurface at cost to me once the warranty expired.
When I called MB of North America they said that
they would honor any dealership service manager's
authorization for post warranty work. The catch is
that no service manager will agree to EAT the labor
charges on the repairs and therefore WILL NOT
authorize any substantial post warranty work (even
if it is design related). When I returned to MB of
N. America they said that they could not help. Any
parties interested in pursuing the suit please
contact.
